SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Analysis- Slot 1:

SSC stands Staff Selection Commission which works under government for selecting the staff for various posts in government offices/ departments. It conducts Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam for the very same purpose i.e. for recruiting staff for certain posts in different departments of the government of India.

In order to clear this exam, it is important to clear both:-

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Main Examination

The exam is conducted in four different tiers which are as follows:-

  1. Tier 1 (computer based exam)
  2. Tier 2 (computer based exam
  3. Tier 3 (Descriptive exam in Hindi or English)
  4. Tier 4 (Skill Test/ Computer Skill Test)

SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Analysis

Important Details of SSC CGL Tier 1 exam held on 5th August 2017:

  • Duration of exam- 60 minutes
  • Duration of exam for visually handicapped- 80 minutes
  • Total number of questions- 100
  • Maximum marks- 200
  • Negative marking- Deduction of 0.5 marks for every wrong answer

Exam Pattern of SSC CGL Tier 1 exam (5th August 2017)

 

There were four different sections which were all compulsory to attempt by all the candidates:-

  1. General Intelligence and Reasoning
  2. General Awareness
  3. Quantitative Aptitude
  4. English Comprehension

All sections consisted of 25 questions each which make the total of 100 questions. Every question carried 2 marks making the total 200.

SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Analysis

The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam held on 5th August 2017 slot 1 can be considered of moderate level. But the English language section was a little bit tricky. The General Intelligence section was pretty easy. Rest both sections were again of the moderate level of difficulty.

SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Analysis- Section Wise Exam Review:

  1. General Intelligence and Reasoning

This section covered various topics of reasoning like series, syllogism, matrix, analogy, blood relation, odd one out, direction and more. It was quite easy to attempt as there were no questions with tough mathematical operations.

  1. General Awareness

General awareness section included a mix of questions from different subjects. It included questions from history, polity, science, current affairs, geography and economics. Maximum questions were from science which had easy to moderate level of difficulty.

  1. Quantitative Aptitude

This section was of moderate difficulty and included questions of simple interest- compound interest- profit/ loss, DI, trigonometry, time and work, geometry, speed and distance, average and percentage, algebra and mensuration.

  1. English

There were no reading comprehensions in this section this year. The questions were a bit twisted which made the level difficult for students. The questions from cloze test and para jumble were also added this year.
