]]> United Nations: US President Donald Trump evoked laughter at the UN General Assembly as he boasted about his administration’s accomplishments in his speech.

“Today, I stand before the United Nations General Assembly to share the extraordinary progress we have made. In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country. So true,” Trump said at the top of his speech.

His remarks elicited laughter from the world leaders gathered in the UN General Assembly hall for the General Debate.

“Didn’t expect that reaction but that’s okay,” Trump responded, as the delegates in the UNGA hall laughed and clapped

Trump said America’s economy is booming like never before and since his election, the US has added USD 10 trillion in wealth.

“The stock market is at an all-time high in history African-American, Hispanic-American, and Asian-American unemployment have all achieved their lowest levels ever recorded,” he said.

Trump said his administration has added four million new jobs including half a million manufacturing jobs and has passed the biggest tax cuts and reforms in American history.

“We have started the construction of a major border wall and we have greatly strengthened border security. We have secured record funding for our military, USD 700 billion this year and USD 716 billion next year. Our military will soon be more powerful than it has ever been before.

“In other words, the United States is stronger, safer, and a richer country than it was when I assumed office two years ago. We are standing up for America and the American people, and we are also standing up for the world,” he said.

]]> France to Ban All Gas and Diesel Vehicles by 2040- Nicolas Hulot, the new environment minister of France stated that France will outlaw all gas and diesel vehicles sales by 2040. Not only this but by that time, they will also ban any new projects which will require the use of petrol, gas or coal.

Mr Hulot is a former wildlife TV presenter who is now a minister of France’s Ecological and Social Transition. While making this huge announcement, he took the pledge of making the planet great again. France also plans to make itself carbon neutral by 2050.
“the government will offer each French person a bonus to replace their diesel car dating before 1997 or petrol from before 2001 by a new or second-hand vehicle,” he added.
These announcements are said to be part of 5-year plan under the Paris Climate Agreement in order to encourage clean energy and fulfil the commitments previously made under it as their government wishes to maintain their leadership in this policy.
He said, “We want to demonstrate that fighting against climate change can lead to an improvement of French people’s daily lives,”
This announcement was made after Volvo stated that they plan to build hybrid and electric cars only from the year 2019.

He mentioned that reaching this target will definitely be tough, particularly for car markers as it would put great pressure on them but also that France’s car industry is equipped enough to make this switch and contribute to its success.

They also made the announcement about stopping the importing of a few products like soya and palm oil which play role in contributing to deforestation especially in the Amazon forest in Congo. As for now, deforestation represents 10 percent of greenhouse gas emissions globally.

He also added that they will be establishing citizen panels so as to debate over practical ways through which France can get help in meeting its commitments made under the Paris Climate Agreement.
Reacting to this news, James Thornton (CEO of ClientEarth) has said,
“This is a huge statement of intent from the French government and an example of how we’re likely to see exponential change in the coming years as governments grapple with the necessary changes we have to make for air quality and our climate.
These moves should be heeded by other governments and industry, who need to act to protect us from air pollution in our towns and cities and help mitigate climate change.”

Not just France but also other countries aim to ban combustion powered cars like Germany as well as plans to do so by 2030 and Netherlands along with Norway seek to achieve this aim by 2025.

This year, Perseid meteor shower is expected to be more than average but still less than in 2016.

]]> 43 of 55 McDonald’s outlets are being shut in Delhi due to health license. Yes, you heard it right. It’s really 43 out of 55! It is really a bad news not only for McDonald’s (U.S. based fast food chain) but also for all the McDonald’s lovers out there.  This decision was taken during a board meeting via Skype on 29 June morning.

All these outlets are said to be shut down from 29 June itself and the reason being told is failure in renewing their license by CPRL (Connaught Plaza Restaurants Pvt. Ltd.) which is McDonald’s North and East India licensee. Although, McDonald’s India did not elaborate on the reasons behind this failure.

The Indian subsidiary of McDonald’s has given out this statement confirming that “the eating house licences of a number of McDonald’s restaurants in Delhi have expired”. He also added that CPRL is working to obtain the license as soon as possible.

McDonald’s India Pvt. Ltd. Also stated- “Pending this, CPRL is temporarily suspending the operations of the affected restaurants. McDonald’s is committed to ensuring that our restaurants are operating in full compliance with McDonald’s standards and applicable regulations. India continues to be an important market for McDonald’s and we are committed to working with CPRL to resolve the issue as soon as possible,”

CPRL is a local joint venture between McDonald’s and Vikram Bakshi (former Managing Director of CPRL) operating over 165 McDonals’s restaurants. There’s a tussle going on between both these partners over control of CPRL since two years. Also, the arbitration proceeding is being by McDonald’s regarding this matter in London Court of International Arbitration.

The closure of these restaurants will be affecting over 1700 employees who will lose their jobs. But, good thing is that this closure is a temporary suspension and it is a relief that the employees working for these restaurants will be paid their due salaries while the restaurants remain closed which was clarified by the statements of CPRL as well as McDonald’s.

“As this is a temporary shut down, all employees working in these restaurants shall be retained,” said Bakshi.

Earlier, in 2013, McDonald’s was accused by Bakshi of oppression and mismanagement when the former voted against him being re-elected as Managing Director of CPRL. And that’s when this tussle is said to be started. Also, later in the same year, McDonald’s had invoked arbitration and cancelled the joint venture agreement with Bakshi.

This suspension may not adversely affect McDonald’s but there are several other fast food chains competing with it like Subway, Dominos, KFC and more which may get benefitted b this incident. As said by Kiran Khalap (co- founder of Brand and Communications Consultancy) in her words, “The brand’s goodwill and popularity will not be affected in the long run, simply because the incident has not happened because of a transgression of a promise made to a consumer. But competitors of McDonald’s will definitely gain from its absence,”

All this being said, we just hope that McDonald’s renew their required licenses and come back as soon as possible.

After the Indian army successfully conducted the mission, a day after Pakistani newspaper The Nation in an editorial published, ‘Self-destructive battle was carried by Indian army because they were only thirsty for Pakistani soldiers blood’

Here’s what the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) released on 30 September 2016.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was dropped out of his upcoming movie ‘Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laddoo Deewana’ after the whole controversy. Shafqat Amanat Ali and Atif Aslam’s concerts were scheduled for during upcoming months in Gurgaon and Bengaluru, apparently it has been cancelled too. TL Satyaprakash, the deputy commissioner of Gurgaon said ‘Atif Aslam’s concert has been cancelled keeping in mind the sentiments of our Indian army who died and who are still fighting at the border for us. Nation first then anything else, district administration of Gurgaon gave the suggestion to do so.’

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal wrote a letter for not allowing Shafqat Amanat Ali to perform on 30 September concert in Bengaluru, the letter was accepted by Bangalore Police and the concert has been cancelled. Actors like Manoj Tiwari was seen supporting the ban on Pakistani actors on Twitter and praising the Modi government for it. ‘Dear Zindagi’ Shahrukh Khan and Ali Zafar’s movie, might also get to see some criticism as it will be releasing this November.

Fawad Khan as soon as he went back to Pakistan said, ‘My first priority has always been and will always be Pakistan.’ also he’ll not be coming back to India for the premiere of his upcoming movie ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’.
