SSC CGL Syllabus & Pattern

There are majorly four sections (General Awareness, Reasoning, English and Quantitative Aptitude) which are asked in both Tier 1 and Tier 2. The English section syllabus is diverse for Tier 1 and Tier 2, rest all the remaining sections are the same for Tier 1 as well as for Tier 2.

 SSC CGL Reasoning

The reasoning section of SSC CGL is extremely scoring. The difficulty level of different questions is different and hence the time taken to solve that questions is also different. This exam was conducted by the authority from August 5, 2017 to August 23, 2017. Such a huge number of candidates appeared for this exam that it was taken in 43 batches across the country.

The paper consisted of 100 questions in total and each question was of 2 marks. Also, negative marking is also applicable and 0.50 marks will be deducted from the total for every wrong answer. The CGL Tier 1 result 2017 will be declared differently for the candidates belonging to different categories i.e. General, SC, ST, OBC and PH. All of the categories will have different qualifying marks and you will be considered selected only if you score more than the qualifying marks required as per your category.

Steps for checking the Result (SSC CGL Tier 1):

  1. Open the official website of SSC by clicking on the following link- http://ssc.nic.in/
  2. Now either search through the Latest News displayed on the home page and find the result declaration of CGL Tier 1 exam result or click on the CGL Tier 1 Result 2017 tab given on the top of the homepage.
  3. Once you’ve clicked on the asked option, a PDF will open showing the list of names of the candidates who’ve successfully cleared the exam.
  4. Now, you can check your name in the list with the help of your roll number. Your rank will be written in front of your name only.

What after SSC CGL Tier 1 exam?

Candidates will have to give the Tier 2 exam after the Tier 1 exam. Only the candidates whose name has appeared in the lists will be considered qualified to give the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam which will be held in November, 2017.

The marks secured by candidates in SSC CGL Tier 1 exam will not be added at the time of final merit list as this exam is of qualifying nature. Candidates are just required to qualify this exam so that they may give the Tier 2 exam. Only the marks scored in Tier 2 will be considered for the further process i.e. Tier 3 and Tier 4.

  1. General Awareness

General awareness section included a mix of questions from different subjects. It included questions from history, polity, science, current affairs, geography and economics. Maximum questions were from science which had easy to moderate level of difficulty.

  1. Quantitative Aptitude

This section was of moderate difficulty and included questions of simple interest- compound interest- profit/ loss, DI, trigonometry, time and work, geometry, speed and distance, average and percentage, algebra and mensuration.

  1. English

There were no reading comprehensions in this section this year. The questions were a bit twisted which made the level difficult for students. The questions from cloze test and para jumble were also added this year.
