]]> You can tell by the bright greenery and the distant sneezing of everyone with allergies that spring has finally arrived. For many people, spring is a chance to start fresh and improve themselves, such as with spring cleaning. With the warmer weather and less icy ground, many people hope to return to how they used to work out and get into motion. Working out and eating healthy often feel much easier once the weather starts getting warmer, and it’s time to start working towards your health goals.

If spring is calling your name, and the great outdoors is sounding better every minute: here are the top ways to get healthier during spring.

Drink Lots Of Fluids

You should be drinking lots of water all year round, but if this is something you want to work on improving, spring is a great time for it. Although the dry air of winter is gone and humid summers are on their way: keep drinking a lot of water. You don’t need to chug a gallon of water an hour, but when you’re thirsty, make sure there’s a drink at hand. Dehydration can sap your energy and leave you unable to keep working out.

Although the best thing for you to drink is pure water, if you need flavor, you can drink tea, sparkling water, or plain flavored water instead. You can also always add in some of your favorite fruits or mint leaves if you want something other than plain water. Water helps you feel fuller and will keep your body working smoothly while you’re fighting off allergies and warmer temperatures.

Work Out With Purpose

Now that you can get outside, and it’s not too hot out, you should attempt to work out outside as often as possible. Home gyms and gym memberships are great, but getting outside in the fresh air can motivate you even more. Think about what types of workouts you can do to utilize the outside areas near your home before it gets too hot out. For many, jogging, walking, or biking are the top ways to get out and about.

Ensure that you have your phone on you, and if you’re going out early in the morning or late at night, have something reflective on your arm or leg, so cars will see that you’re there.

Try to Get Some More Sleep

Many people struggle to get enough sleep at night. You can’t be at your best if you’re tired all the time, so if you want to start getting healthier, you’ll need to work on improving your sleep. There are many ways you can start sleeping better, such as putting away electronics a while before going to bed and cutting back on caffeine. Plus, if you’re working out more regularly, your body might feel more tired at the end of the day, which can help you get a better night’s sleep. Your body needs rest to work properly, but it’s also important for your mental health, which is a big part of living a healthy lifestyle. When you’re getting better sleep at night, you could quickly start to notice a change in how you feel during the day.

Change It Up Pretty Often

Spring is a time for growth! Try new and exciting exercises that you haven’t before. A significant reason people give up on exercising is that they get bored of how repetitive it is. You can keep it exciting by changing up which exercises you do and where you do them. If you want a new route, consider jogging and looking at Fort Lauderdale houses for sale in a neighborhood you love!  Use tools like YouTube and Pinterest to find exercises that can keep you interested.

Don’t Do It Alone

Even if you’re fully motivated to get healthy and stay in shape, it’s a big challenge for many people, and it’s easy to take a break and fall out of your routine. To help you stay on track, consider teaming up with a friend to work out with. Many people start working out again when the weather heats up, which gives you the chance to find a workout buddy or two. Of course, you’ll help keep each other accountable, but it’ll also help the workout go by faster since you’ll be able to talk and enjoy each others’ company.

If you don’t have anyone you can work out with, set aside a podcast or radio show that you’ll only listen to when you’re exercising. Looking forward to a new podcast episode will help push you into motion, and keeping your mind focused on the audio inside of your exercises will relax you enough to work out for longer.

Spring is a time to start fresh and clear off your bad habits for better ones. Getting out, having fun exercising, and enjoying some fresh air is the best way to make the most of it.

Biomedical Field-

A hydrogel with a three-dimensional culture and high water content has recently been demonstrated to be capable of connecting with cells so as to engineer various tissues in both Vivo and Vitro. There is a crucial requirement for the building of sufficient qualities of three-dimensional tissues that are regenerative. The requirement is an artificially created environment that will enable the biological cells to interact or grow with their surroundings.

A recent group study made a report that new cross-linking chemistry was successful in the formation of hydrogels for a 3-D cell culture. This study utilized the click reaction called tetrazine norbornene. Benzylamine tetrazine moiety and a PEG functionalized together and were specifically chosen because of previous work that proved that there was a high reactivity towards the norborne. Ideal reaction kinetics, bio-orthogonality, and the photochemical patterning amenability made this particular hydrogel platform develop potential applications in various fundamentals including translational tissue engineering applications.

Self-Healing

One of the most outstanding properties of natural materials, such as bones, skin, and wood, is self-healing. This outstanding reality is an indication that hydrogels and their relationship to self-healing will open up numerous biomedical applications. Synthetic hydrogels are made to mimic biological tissues but most the time they, unfortunately, lack the ability to self-heal. This drawback could limit their utilization in some of the applications that require high stress.

This is one of the reasons why many researchers are dedicating a lot of effort and time to improve the mechanical properties of hydrogels which includes self-healing. The process of healing a crack in a natural system will normally contain an energy dissipation mechanism. Self-healing will occur during the presence of sacrificial bonds which can reform and break dynamically during or before the failure occurs.

To prepare any self-healing hydrogel, both non-covalent and covalent interactions must be present. A researcher noticed that the synthesis of novel hydrogels contained a reversible oxime cross-link. These particular hydrogels were able to provide autonomous healing because of their dynamic nature. The researcher prepared these hydrogels by copolymerizing them. This produced an efficient self-healing ability and a reversible gel-to-sol transition.

Drug Delivery

Hydrogels have proven very effective for drug delivery. The porous structure of a hydrogel can provide an excellent matrix for drug loading. At the same time, this matrix will also help to protect a drug from any hostile environment. In addition, the porous structure of a hydrogel can be controlled by simply varying the density of the gel matrix when cross-linking.

Drug carriers rely upon a release rate that primarily depends on the diffusion coefficient. The molecule of the hydrogel has the ability to be tuned in accordance with specific requirements. Biodegradability and biocompatibility can be obtained by constructing a design for certain physical and chemical structures for hydrogels. All of these properties show that hydrogels have a tremendous potential when it comes to being used for drug delivery.

A Pluronic, or Poloxamer, has been extensively used in pharmaceutical systems. One researcher and his team fabricated an injectable gel that was based on a Poloxamer to control and carry the release of an anaesthetic agent called lidocaine. Even though Poloxamer was available commercially and utilize by hospitals, it nevertheless still had limitations. These limitations were investigated by other researchers as they tried to find ways to use hydrogels to load various drugs into a gel matrix. Eventually, they were successful in creating an injectable loaded hydrogel to distribute the drug doxorubicin.

A different study was recently done by Yamauchi and his co-workers. In this study, a hydrogel which contained cationic substituents was prepared by means of a free radical polymerization. The research team applied an aqueous amount of Micaromica to a surface. When this was introduced to the hydrogels, it produced a strong adhesion into the interlayers of Micromica because of the intercalation of the cationic substituents that were included in the hydrogels network. The adhesive strength became extremely strong and it was able to support an unbelievable tensile load. The tensile load capacity was an amazing 10 kg before the water content ratio of the hydrogels decreased.

Another interesting research study was done by a researcher named Loessner and his team. They focused in on a (GelMa) gelatin methacrylamide based hydrogel. This researcher and his team analyzed them as a Vivo and Vitro spheroid-based model for issues with ovarian cancer. They did this so that they could efficiently reflect on the advanced stage of the disease. Hydrogels of equal diffusion, size, and physical properties were generated by utilizing a validation and controlled preparation protocol. These type of gelatin methacrylamide based hydrogels proved to be ideal for a reproducible, low cost, and

tailorable matrix for many of the 3-D cancer cell cultures. It proved to be a great alternative. It also helped to improve the understanding of various disease progressions on a cellular level as well as being able to screen anti-cancer drugs.

Summary

Hydrogels, in comparison with other types of biomaterials, have very distinct properties such as controllable swelling behavior, high water content, biocompatibility, as well as ease of handling. This makes them extremely attractive for hydrogels for biomedical applications. Based on their cross-link network and chemical structure, hydrogels have the ability to respond to various types of stimuli including light, pH, chemical, and thermal stimuli.

Recent studies discussed the different hydrogel swelling mechanisms and how their bulky structure would affect the properties of a swollen hydrogel under specific conditions. The hydrogels that were based on natural materials, such as polypeptides and polysaccharides, were studied in detail.

The fact that a hydrogel has a three-dimensional polymeric cross-link network that is able to swell and absorb a large amount of water is perhaps the main reason why it continues to be considered as a prime candidate for self-healing materials, a delivery vehicle for biomolecules and drugs, and tissue engineering. Obviously, there will be additional research in the future that will target how hydrogels will be able to achieve efficient and fast self-healing abilities, high mechanical strength, and different biological activities for a variety of biomedical purposes.

The doctor, it generates a belief, that you might be having some form of kidney problems, would ask you to get a urine microalbumin test. The test might be conducted if there is some risk of kidney disease or kidney damage. The microalbuminuria test is a type of urine test that would measure the amount of albumin in the urine. The albumin is a protein that is used by the body for the growth in the cells. It is also used for repair of the damaged tissues. The protein is normally present in the blood but if the level reaches a certain point in the urine, it is actually a sign of kidney damage.

The kidney is the organ which has the responsibility of removing waste products from the blood and regulate the levels of fluids in the body. The healthy kidneys would remove the waste from the body and the nutrients and proteins that are essential to the health would stay in the body. If the kidneys are functioning properly, then the albumin would stay in the blood. When there is some damage in the kidneys, it might not be able to keep the albumin in the blood and some of it would start to spill out through the urine. The condition that is faced at this stage is known as albuminuria. The term is simply used to mean that there is albumin in the urine.

The microalbuminuria test can also be referred to as the albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) test at times. The anti HCV test might be conducted to find out if there is a presence of the Hepatitis C virus in the blood. The virus is known to affect the liver and also some other complications.

Why is the test conducted?

The test might be recommended to you by the doctor if there is some suspicion that you have risks of kidney damage. It is very important for the doctor to diagnose the problems in the kidneys as soon as possible. Proper treatment might be able to delay the disease or prevent it. Some of the most common causes of kidney problems are hypertension and diabetes. The doctor might order the tests if you have such problems. The test measures the amount of albumin in the urine. This test would generally be conducted along with the creatinine test so that an albumin-to-creatinine ratio can be offered. Creatinine is actually a waste product in the blood that should be removed by the kidneys. During the kidney diseases, the creatinine levels would decrease in the urine and the levels of albumin rise.

The underlying conditions or the symptoms of kidney damage would decide how often you would be needing the urine albumin tests. The urine might even appear foamy if the kidney damage is extensive. There might even be swelling in the face, hands, feet and abdomen. The swine flu test should also be conducted to keep yourself safe from flu. This is a must for people who wish to be safe from any chances of contracting swine flu. This test is not that complicated and can be done quite easily.

How would the test proceed?

The tests might be different:

  • Random urine test – The test can be taken any time. The test is generally conducted in the clinic. The sample needs to be collected in a sterile cup and it would be sent to the laboratory for further analysis as well.
  • 24-hour urine test – All of the urine over a 24-hour period is needed to be collected in this process. A container would be provided by the doctor for urine collection. This needs to be kept in the refrigerator. You would have to return the container after the procedure is over.
  • Timed urine test – The doctor might ask you to be providing a urine sample in the morning or explicit instructions would be given. For instance, you might need to offer a sample after 4 hours of not urinating. These are certain things that you would do well to keep in mind at all times.

What would be meant by the results?

Albuminuria denotes the presence of excessive amounts of albumin in the urine. Microalbuminuria would mean small amounts of albumin in the urine, while macroalbuminuria would mean very high amounts. The results are measured in mg of protein leakage. If the results are more than 30 mg of proteins, it means you are in trouble so watch out for any such signs on the results.

Thus the test is a very good measure of damage in the kidneys and will help you take prompt corrective action based on medical advice. These tests should be carried out without fail if you are looking to assess the condition of your kidneys.

7 Causes of Green Stools in your baby- Looking for the reasons of green poop in your baby, this article is useful for you. Having a baby means new joys, cuddles, playtimes and cleaning poops, a lot of it.  Also, infants and toddlers parents always check their babies stool diligently as it is also an indicator of health.

Poops come in different textures, quantity, and color and believe it or not green stool is actually quite normEdumovlive.comal for a child. They eat and swallow anything that is in their sight and thus it doesn’t indicate anything serious, just some dietary changes and nominal issue, which can be cured easily.

Now let’s check out 7 Causes of Green Stools in Baby.

1. Dietary causes of baby

Infants can have green stool due to breastfeeding while the mother has green vegetable too much. Similarly, when an infant grows into a toddler, their food requirements go up and you introduce many vegetables and food items to them.

If they eat spinach, beans or any other green leafy vegetable or consume food or beverages that have a green color in them, it is quite possible for them to have green stool. To know whether it’s because of green vegetables only, stop feeding them such items.
Check if the poop is normal colored for 3 days, if not then the cause must be something else than food.

2.  Meconium

After the child is born, for a few days he/she will pass hard stool that is dark black with subtle green in it known as meconium.
This color is because, for the first few days, the poop has all the things the fetus consumed while it was still in the womb; it included bile, ammoniac acid, mucus, and water and epithelial cells.
This is odourless and after 4- days it starts turning into normal yellow or green color, as the bay starts to digest breast milk.

3.  A mother’s diet

If you are eating green vegetables like spinach or coriander more, it will make the poop of the baby green. Also, if there is any consumption of green colored food item by you, it reaches the baby’s system through feeding and thus they pass green stool.

4. Bile secretion

The bile is responsible for changing the green color of stool to brown. If the bile doesn’t get enough time to work, the child will pass green faeces.
Sometimes the bile travels much faster to reach the intestine from liver and hence doesn’t have enough time to change the brown color to green.

5. Medication for yourself and baby

If you are taking iron or vitamin supplements that are artificially colored, it can reach the baby through feeding. Simultaneously, if the baby is taking these supplements. The chances of a stool being green are very high.

6. Oversupply of formula milk or foremilk

Foremilk is the thinner milk that is secreted at the beginning of the feeding, it is higher in lactose and low in fat. When breast milk is oversupplied, babies drink this foremilk leading to an improper balance of lactose and fat.

The baby digests this milk very fast and can result in the green or frothy stool. Also, consuming too much formula milk makes the baby constipated and gassy, which can also lead to green poop.

7. Food poisoning
An infant’s digestive system is very sensitive and is still developing, hence, consuming some foods or variety of foods becomes a burden for their system.
This leads to food poisoning if the baby has a green stool with fever and abdominal cramps it may indicate food poisoning.

Some important tips:

If the child especially a toddler has a green stool with these symptoms, it’s advisable to consult a doctor as it may indicate towards some health issue:

  • Weight loss that doesn’t seem normal
  • Severe indigestion and gas and bloating
  • Diarrhoea that lasts more than 3 days
  • Stools that have a bad smell
  • Burning, irritable sensations in the rectum area
  • Abdominal pain accompanied by cramps
  • Excessive mucus in the stool
  • bleeding from the rectum
  • Respiratory difficulties
  • Dizziness
  • Less urine

In infants, if green stool passes for more than 5 days, consult a physician.

Don’t forget to look for practically tested home remedies for green stools in infants.

Also, check for dehydration, if the child drinks less water or has severe diarrhoea, they can have dehydration and can pass green or yellow stool with other symptoms like dry mouth or swollen tongue.

Green stool is usually normal for a child but it still keeps an eye on it to make sure that your child is healthy. For any further queries on causes of green stools, feel free to write below in comments.

Obesity has become an epidemic in the contemporary world. You go out on the street and you witness many people, young and old, suffering from this frustrating condition. If you have a subscription to one of the Xfinity TV Packages, you switch on the TV and you see overweight people, even celebs. It’s like a virus that is penetrating under our skin and making it fluffy. People try all different workout regimens and diet plans to shed off those stubborn extra pounds. Some lack consistency, some lack to have a proper plan and consequently there are only a few who actually succeed in losing weight.

Diet Mistakes That Cause Your Calorie Counting To Be Far Less Effective

Calorie counting is an effective weight loss tool. It is arguably one of the most reliable and tested weight loss strategies. However, it needs full commitment and consistency. Unfortunately, in many cases, even if a person is committed to it, some trivial mistakes hold them back. The kind of mistakes that they don’t even know that they are making. That kills the whole point of it.

Calorie counting is all about eating in a deficit and not committing the following common mistakes.

Mistake 1: Not Measuring Each and Everything

It probably seems pretty obvious but, it is perhaps the most detrimental mistake that you can make. No one is very accurate at estimating food portions and sizes. We all tend to downplay the estimated calorie intake and hence end up eating more. As a result, we reach a point where we are eating far above the calorie deficit. So, stay honest and measure everything. Using a food scale is highly recommended.

Mistake 2: Not Keeping a Count Every Day

Let’s say, you go out to eat or drink. And consequently, you miss your daily protein goal and you don’t feel like logging it in. If you do that often, then know that you are likely to overeat. It becomes a kind of ‘cheat day’ of eating. Even a single or a couple of days of overeating can successfully undo a full week’s hard work. Calorie count is an underestimated accountability measure. It keeps you under control, just like the traffic rules keep you right on track. Daily logging is vital to that accountability.

Mistake 3: Forget about Kitchen Grabs

Most of the people are addicted to ‘kitchen grabs’. While just paying a visit to the kitchen to drink water, they would grab a handful of cashews (that makes around 200 calories), or a few crackers (makes around a 100 calories), and so on. Some people would chew a handful of cereal (roughly 50 calories) before they actually pour it into the bowl. All these ‘whatever’ moments actually add around 550+ calories that you don’t even add to your daily intake. To cut the long story short, these kitchen grabs are preventing your progress big time! Try and log all the little things that you eat. That includes munching quick handfuls, bites from others’ plates, small snacks, taste tests, bigger portions than regular, and so on.

Mistake 4: Not Counting the Liquid Calories

We witnessed a case where the person was hitting his everyday calorie goal successfully, yet there was no progress. It became confusing for both the trainer and the person who is trying to work hard with the calorie counting drill. There was no fat loss! After discussing many different theories, we identified the issue. He wasn’t calculating his liquid calories. His daily coffee intake was around 300-400 calories. And if you multiply these calories with the seven days of a week. Enough to prevent any progress!

Hence proved, that every calorie that you engulf needs to be counted. As a general weight loss tip, try and eat most of your daily calories, since the liquid calories are not very filling.

Mistake 5: Not Tracking the Meals

Similar to not counting every day and not counting the liquid calories, there is another factor which can blow your progress. And that is not tracking the meals. If your meals are high in calories, it becomes more challenging. Maybe you should consider making an extra effort. If you are eating out, know what you are ordering. Preferably, log all the ingredients of the dish that you order. When you are confident about each item and the quantity on the menu you have ordered, round up the estimated portion.

To know more about common diet mistakes that affect your calorie counting, try following some fitness channels on TV. Spectrum TV Silver Packages particularly offer a variety on-demand fitness channels like Sports Kool that discuss fitness and diet regularly. Try watching them to get more nutrition savvy. Remember, your diet is a major part of your fitness lifestyle and should be given the importance it is due.

Harmful effects of Air Pollution- Pollution has become a common term to be heard everywhere these days. We hear a lot about it on mass media as well as read in the newspaper regarding the various ill effects pollution is causing to our environment. Air pollution is one of the forms of pollution which involves the physical, biological and chemical alteration of the air in the atmosphere. Air pollution affects everything, from people, other animals to the environment causing many long terms and short hazardous effects.

CAUSES OF AIR POLLUTION

  1. Burning of Fossil fuels: Combustion of fossil fuels like coal, petroleum and other factory combustibles emit sulfur dioxide which is the major cause of air pollution. Overuse of vehicles for transportation is killing our environment. Incomplete combustion of fossil fuels gives rise to carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide, which are another major pollutants of air.
  2. Agricultural activities: Insecticides, pesticides and fertilizers used in the agricultural activities give rise to ammonia which is one of the most hazardous gases in the atmosphere.
  3. Exhaust from factories and industries: These days manufacturing industries can be found in the every corner of earth and these industries release large amount carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, organic compounds and chemicals into the air and deplete the quality of air. Hydrocarbons released from petroleum refineries also adds to the air pollution.
  4. Mining operations: During the mining process to extract minerals below the earth, a lot of dust and chemicals are released in the air causing massive air pollution which also deteriorates the health conditions of workers and nearby residents.
  5. Indoor air pollution: Toxic chemicals are emitted during the household cleaning products, painting supplies etc. cause air pollution and makes it impossible to breathe. The suspended particulate matter caused by dust and combustion etc. is another cause of pollution.

HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION can be divided into two categories:

Short-term Health effects

Irritation of the eyes, nose and throat as well upper respiratory infections like bronchitis are caused by the irritants from air pollution. Asthma, headache and nausea are few other health effects related to air pollution.

Long-term Health effects:

  1. Chronic respiratory diseases, lung cancer, heart diseases and damage to the nervous system, liver and kidneys are all related to serious health hazards of air pollution.
  2. Smog and Acid Rain: Release of toxic gases like sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides can lead to smog and acid rain, when these gases undergo chemical reactions in the air. Smog and acid rain have detrimental health effects and can damage plants, soil and bodies of water.
  3. Agriculture and forests: Crops and forests get damaged because of air pollution which can contaminate and destroy the food supply. Air pollution slows the growth of the forests and can even cause them to die which brings imbalance in the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the environment.
  4. Global warming: Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, nitric oxide are greenhouse gases, which traps the heat from the sun and increases the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. This can lead to dramatic climate changes on the whole earth’s ecosystem like increased temperatures worldwide, increase in sea levels, melting of icebergs, displacement and loss of habitats.
  5. Eutrophication: High amount of nitrogen from the nearby agricultural lands and from other pollutants enters into the water bodies like lake, seas and oceans. This leads to excessive growth of green colored algae in them which adversely affect the fish, plants and animals species.
  6. Ozone Depletion: Chlorofluorocarbons, hydro chlorofluorocarbons emitted from refrigerators and other electronic devices are depleting the protective ozone layer because of which harmful UV rays from the sun can reach on the earth and cause skin and eye related problems. These rays affect the crops also.

DISEASES CAUSED DUE TO HARMFUL EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION

Lung Disease: Asthma, COPD, Pneumonia, Emphysema, Bronchitis and Lung Cancer are few of the respiratory diseases caused by high levels of air pollution. The muscles in airways of the lungs contract, narrowing the airway (airway hyper reactivity) because of the pollutants present in the air.

  1. Asthma: Ground level ozone, sulfur dioxide, fine particulate matter and nitrogen oxide are the major air pollutants that trigger this disease. These pollutants constrict the smaller airways in the lungs and make breathing difficult which can set off a serious life threatening attack of asthma.
  2. COPD: Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are the common types of COPDs in which the air sacs lose their shape and become distended or floppy due to long term exposure to air pollutants. Sulfur dioxide and other combustible fossil fuels cause the airways to become inflamed and constricted, causing breathing difficulty and chest pain.
  3. Lung Cancer: Long term exposure to combustion generated fine particulate matter poses a significant risk of pulmonary cancer as a lot of carcinogenic particles are present in the polluted air which enters the body through inhalation and causes the abnormal growth of cells which can develop into tumors and impair the lungs.
  4. Eye Disease: Air pollution can affect the eyes in various ways from simple irritation and burning sensation to severe allergy. The most common symptoms are-
  • Dryness
  • Allergic reaction (eyelid swelling, inability to open eyes, conjunctivitis, ulcers)
  • Burning sensation,
  • Watery Eyes,
  • Ropy Discharge,
  • Itchiness,
  • Difficulty in vision due to watering and itching etc.
  • Dry Eye Syndrome: Smog and lack of humidity in highly polluted areas lead to dry eyes in which either the tear production in the eyes are low or the evaporation of the tears is very high which ends up in inflamed eyes.

It has been reported that high levels of pollutants like nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide in the air make the tear film of the eyes more acidic.

Chronic Kidney Disease: Recent studies have shown that dust, dirt, smoke, soot and liquids in polluted air, when inhaled by people can enter into their bloodstream. When the air is taken in and the particles from the polluted air reach the kidney passing through the lungs via bloodstream, the filtration of blood is done by the kidney and during this process, these particles cause inflammation and oxidative stress within the blood-filtering organs. This makes the kidney unable to filter blood effectively and a person requires dialysis to stay alive.

On a worldwide basis several attempts are being made on personal, industrial and governmental levels to control the intensity of increase in the Air Pollution and regain a balance between the environmental gases. To see a better tomorrow, we need to take the challenge of eradicating air pollution which is one of the larger mirrors of man’s follies. To curb air pollution some major steps need to be taken as use of public mode of transportation, conservation of energy and forests, strongly implementing the concept of reduce, reuse and recycle as well as emphasis on clean energy resources.

43 of 55 McDonald’s outlets are being shut in Delhi due to health license. Yes, you heard it right. It’s really 43 out of 55! It is really a bad news not only for McDonald’s (U.S. based fast food chain) but also for all the McDonald’s lovers out there.  This decision was taken during a board meeting via Skype on 29 June morning.

All these outlets are said to be shut down from 29 June itself and the reason being told is failure in renewing their license by CPRL (Connaught Plaza Restaurants Pvt. Ltd.) which is McDonald’s North and East India licensee. Although, McDonald’s India did not elaborate on the reasons behind this failure.

The Indian subsidiary of McDonald’s has given out this statement confirming that “the eating house licences of a number of McDonald’s restaurants in Delhi have expired”. He also added that CPRL is working to obtain the license as soon as possible.

McDonald’s India Pvt. Ltd. Also stated- “Pending this, CPRL is temporarily suspending the operations of the affected restaurants. McDonald’s is committed to ensuring that our restaurants are operating in full compliance with McDonald’s standards and applicable regulations. India continues to be an important market for McDonald’s and we are committed to working with CPRL to resolve the issue as soon as possible,”

CPRL is a local joint venture between McDonald’s and Vikram Bakshi (former Managing Director of CPRL) operating over 165 McDonals’s restaurants. There’s a tussle going on between both these partners over control of CPRL since two years. Also, the arbitration proceeding is being by McDonald’s regarding this matter in London Court of International Arbitration.

The closure of these restaurants will be affecting over 1700 employees who will lose their jobs. But, good thing is that this closure is a temporary suspension and it is a relief that the employees working for these restaurants will be paid their due salaries while the restaurants remain closed which was clarified by the statements of CPRL as well as McDonald’s.

“As this is a temporary shut down, all employees working in these restaurants shall be retained,” said Bakshi.

Earlier, in 2013, McDonald’s was accused by Bakshi of oppression and mismanagement when the former voted against him being re-elected as Managing Director of CPRL. And that’s when this tussle is said to be started. Also, later in the same year, McDonald’s had invoked arbitration and cancelled the joint venture agreement with Bakshi.

This suspension may not adversely affect McDonald’s but there are several other fast food chains competing with it like Subway, Dominos, KFC and more which may get benefitted b this incident. As said by Kiran Khalap (co- founder of Brand and Communications Consultancy) in her words, “The brand’s goodwill and popularity will not be affected in the long run, simply because the incident has not happened because of a transgression of a promise made to a consumer. But competitors of McDonald’s will definitely gain from its absence,”

All this being said, we just hope that McDonald’s renew their required licenses and come back as soon as possible.
