Every year, SSC declares the SSC CGL recruitment notification for the combined graduate level exams to fill countless seats in government departments. However,  the dates for SSC CGL online exam (Tier 1 ) has been postponed. The SSC CGL exam was to be held from 25th July 2018- 20th August 2018 which has been delayed.

Lakhs of students apply online for SSC CGL exam and prepare for the SSC CGL exam without coaching. From every corner of the country, numerous students fill the form for the applicable posts.

It is a common notion that you cannot crack the entrance exams without the support from so-called ‘’coaching centres’’. Spending huge money and time on coaching centre is not only the solution to clear SSC CGL exam 2018. But gone are the days when you need to depend on some expert person to guide you to accomplish your goal. Today’s generation is far more equipped with skill and knowledge. We can accomplish what we want on our own. So, forget about that decorative coaching classes and believe in yourself and start your preparation for SSC CGL reasoning.

SSC CGL Syllabus & Pattern

There are majorly four sections (General Awareness, Reasoning, English and Quantitative Aptitude) which are asked in both Tier 1 and Tier 2. The English section syllabus is diverse for Tier 1 and Tier 2, rest all the remaining sections are the same for Tier 1 as well as for Tier 2.

The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam is for 60 minutes comprising 25 Questions each from General Awareness, Reasoning, English and Quantitative Aptitude. Each correct answer will give you 2 marks and for every wrong answer, 0.50 will be deducted.

In SSC CGL Tier 2, 4 papers are provided in which Paper 1 and Paper 2 are compulsory if you cleared Tier 1 exam. Apart from this, Paper 3 and Paper 4 are dedicated to those candidates who filled up for some specific posts.

 SSC CGL Reasoning

The reasoning section of SSC CGL is extremely scoring. The difficulty level of different questions is different and hence the time taken to solve that questions is also different. The section is quite easy if you know the right method and learn how to prepare the same with respect to the time limit.

There are 25 questions of 50 marks. You can easily score well if you devote a high level of concentration to the questions.

SSC CGL Reasoning Topic Weightage

Before you commence your preparation, it is important to know the topic-wise weightage of various topics that come under the reasoning section.

Reasoning Preparation for SSC CGL 2018

The first and foremost thing you should do is to read and understand the examination syllabus. This evaluation will provide you with the wise perception of the paper that you are preparing for.

How to start with the preparation of reasoning?

Reasoning Ability is generally a scoring subject as it takes only the thinking ability of the student. If you can apply your ability, you can easily score well in SSC CGL exam. Unlike numerical knowledge in reasoning part, you don’t need to mug up some formula and apply the same to solve the problems. You just need to be very careful while answering the questions. This reasoning section tests your judgement and other skills associated with the presence of mind and analytical ability.

The most important topics of Reasoning are- Analogy, Classification, Series Problems, Ranking, Sitting Arrangements, Coding-decoding, Statements and Conclusions, Directions, Blood Relations, Data Sufficiency, Assumptions and Direction Sense Test. Different questions from paper cutting and folding and mirror images are also asked.

Reasoning Books for SSC CGL Exams

  1. Modern approach to verbal Reasoning by R.S Agarwal
  2. Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey
  3. A New Approach to Reasoning Verbal and Non-Verbal by Arihant Publication
  4. Bank PO Reasoning Chapterwise Solved Papers 1999 – Till Date by Kiran Publication

Some useful tips to score well in Reasoning:

  • No exact formula so solves the questions with logical thinking.
  • Take one topic at a time as reasoning requires you think a certain way and doing various topics together will not be productive for you.
  • Remember the sequence of the alphabets and their numerical position as well.
  • Be very cautious with words having negative prefixes.
  • Try to imagine the objects in 3D like paper folding, dice etc.
  • The understanding of direction should be exact.
  • Practice the questions on daily basis.
  • Make use of your common sense to solve the puzzles.
  • You can even create your own set of formulae to solve the questions.
  • Imagine yourself as a mature person while solving the questions related to assumptions and statements.
  • Practice previous year question paper and mock test as much as you can.
  • Reasoning problems take greater time as compared to other sections, hence time constraint must be on your mind every time.
  • If you are jammed with a question and nothing comes up to you, try removing the options as per the information was given to get the correct answer.
  • Do not try to answer all the questions as it can provide you with negative numbers.

Don’t forget to download SSC CGL preparation app from the Play Store. It provides free notes, topic-wise study material, quizzes, mock test, question papers, online practice set, and all the notification related SSC CGL & other SSC exams.
