Spectre has also got a significance in its title like Skyfall (Bond’s house in Scotland). SPECTRE stands for Special Executive for Counter- Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. The film begins with “The Dead Are Alive”.  A mysterious message from the past of Bond (Daniel Craig) sends him on a trail to Rome and Mexico, where he encounters Lucia, the gorgeous widow (Monica Bellucci) of an infamous criminal. Spectre Box Office Collection Reports:-

Spectre has turned out to be the British Film with the biggest opening ever, earning more than £40M (USD $80) in the first week. The film replaced the previous record holder Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban (£23.8 million in the first week). Globally, Spectre has cashed in more than £52m; and it is yet to be released in the USA (6th November) and India (20th November). BBC also reported that Spectre has broken all the box-office records in almost every territory (six so far) where it has been released till 4th November. In the US, it has been predicted to be the second-best Bond Opening of all time, by the Deadline Hollywood.

Spectre Meta Review:-

According to Variety, Spectre showcases high-octane and extravagant action sequences – that’s a treat to all action-movie lovers. The film does carry the “Nostalgia Kick” like Skyfall, however it is not that high on “emotional urgency”. The cinematography has been top notch as the film moves from London to Rome to Mexico to Tunisia.

Hollywood Reporter writes Spectre as a success in commercial terms and as an action-thriller with “with plenty of revved-up supercar porn and several kinetic high-speed chase sequences on road, river and snowy mountain slope”. The first half has been brilliant, while the second half disappoints a little bit due to many twists and characters. High points are of course cinematography and background score.

BBC: “Nostalgic Swagger with a Modern Edge” and “Achingly Cool“. The movie has got all the USPs of the Bond Classics, and seems to be a YouTube Mash-Up of Vodka Martini, Car Chase and Exploding Building sequences.

The Telegraph has given 5 Stars to Spectre. Some of review excerpts are

  • Rome looks like a $300-million-dollar Tiramisu
  • It’s a feat of pure cinematic necromancy
  • It is terrifically exciting, spectacular, almost operatically delirious 007 adventure….. pure action mayhem with a real sense of style. It is little silly, but high on entertainment.

There are also quite a few negative reviews. Forbes however termed Spectre as the worst 007 movie in 30 years. The good thing about Spectre is that there are something for both the fans of Roger Moore era and the fans of the modern time who are used to franchise-driven filmmaking. The bad part – the cocktail is shaken, but not stirred at all. Metro have listed all the possible flaws in the movie including some spoilers. So, read it at your own peril. South China Morning Post reports that Spectre movie is an absolute thriller, but the Bond heroines disappoint this time.

Empire presents a very holistic review. SPECTRE could be less satisfying than SKYFALL. But, Bond 24 has certainly got the elements to be one of the Best Bond Movies. Some of the high points are the pre-credits set piece, skull-masked Bond in Mexico city, Daniel Craig’s struggling scene inside the helicopter, numerous raw and vintage action sequences. Empire has given 4 Stars to the movie; full marks to Director, Lead Actor and the Location Finder; but raises questions like Empire about the absence of a hummable Bond Song….. ah I am missing Skyfall and Die Another Day theme songs.

I will watch Spectre Movie to enjoy the action and the Bond Legacy. Overall, it is entertaining and a Paisa Wasool film.
